Hannah Höch
1889-1978
Hannah Höch was a German collage artist during the late 1800s and 1900s. She began working in a magazine publishing house, where she created collections of textiles and wrote articles alongside. She created a variety of photomontages, originating from cutouts found in magazines. Her previous work in magazines gave her abundant resources for her visions. Hannah’s process is made up of many collections of women's textiles and embroidery. She combined images to create a striking final picture. Höch aimed for incorporation of shocking themes, creating her works through the collection of various unrelated magazine clippings. She worked towards abstraction and eventually, separation from themes of war altogether.
